At the very start the narrator begins to tell you about the town the story takes place in, seeing the kids find their costumes talking about their friend Pip. We then find out that Pip did not meet up with them. They go Pip’s house and see there are no decorations for halloween. The kids know something is wrong. They go closer and see Pip is being taken away by an ambulance. They then notice a note on the store saying that Pip wants them to start without him. Tom tells the gang that he wants them to meet Pip at the hospital, so they take a scary shortcut through the ravine. They see Pip’s and realize he is a spirit due to the fact they can see right through him. They then follow Pip to a mysterious house where they meet Mr. Moundshroud who questions the children on what they know about halloween. Pip suddenly runs through the house to assist Wally who had suddenly fallen. Mr. Moundshroud claims he has an “appointment with Pip”. Pip runs out of the house and the children follow Pip to a mysterious tree which has pumpkins growing on it. Tom then says “halloween tree,” and Wally says there might be thousands of pumpkins growing on it.
